Uganda: Evangelist Slaughtered, Christian Mother And Child Violently Attacked

by Karen Faulkner, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – In two separate attacks by Muslim extremists in Uganda last month, an evangelist was murdered and a mother and her child were burned with boiling water, Morning Star News reports. Christianity is legal in Uganda, but believers have come under continually increasing violent attack by Islamists.

Evangelist Ronald Twinomugisha was hacked to death in Iganga District on March 30 after it became known that he had led four Muslims to Christ, MSN reports. Prior to his murder, 32-year-old Twinomugisha had received death threats from Islamic extremists. In a statement to MSN, a local witness said he saw men in Islamic attire entering Twinomugisha’s home on the evening of his murder.

“At around 8 p.m. I heard … a loud wailing saying, ‘Please don’t kill me! Please don’t kill me! I am working for Jesus Christ! Please, Jesus is the one who sent me!’ I feared to come out of my house, but shortly the voice stopped,” the witness said.

The evangelist was found dead in a pool of blood beside a note that read: “’We learned what you have been teaching, and misleading Muslims and leading them to a wrong religion from the course and path of Allah.’” Police have launched an investigation.

Five days earlier, in neighboring Namutumba District, 33-year-old Zafara Nagudi was praying at home with her 10-year-old daughter Sharifa Nangobi when they were attacked by her Muslim husband Mujjibu, MSN reports. Zafara’s husband assaulted her and their daughter after he learned she had put her faith in Christ at a recent outdoor evangelistic event in Kaiti.

“I had put water on for preparing millet bread that was at the boiling point,” Nagudi told MSN. “Suddenly I saw my husband at the door of the kitchen, and immediately we stopped praying. I eventually told him …that we were praying to Jesus Christ to help our family. He became very furious and said, ‘I heard everything but am surprised! Are you a Christian or Muslim?’ From there he slapped me and kicked me while boxing me,” Nagudi said. Mujjibu then threw the hot water on his wife and daughter and left them for dead. The two were later rescued and taken for medical treatment.
